In 1996 the Provincetown Community Compact was granted a lease to operate the shack for use by the public at large, including a summer artist-in-residence program with the Cape Cod National Seashore.

The yearround program’s mission is to honor the historic use of the dwelling, while providing refuge and solitude amidst the wonder of the dunes. The Compact encourages visual artists, writers, performers, scientists, historians and the general public to reside in C-Scape and share their experiences through their work.
