Fried Portuguese Bread Rabanadas Holly Carter Although this fried bread can be made with regular Portuguese bread or any other baguette style bread, it is extra special when made with sweet bread. 1 loaf of Portuguese bread or sweet bread 3 eggs 1 cup water 1 cup sugar 1 cup milk The grated rind of a lemon Cinnamon Mix the milk, water, sugar and lemon peel together and bring to a boil. Allow to cool a bit. Slice the bread and roll it in liquid. Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and dip the moist bread in the egg. Fry in oil, turning once to brown on each side. Sprinkle with cinnamon or cinnamon sugar. Serves 4 |
