Beech Forest, just within the Cape Cod National Seashore Park on Race Point Road, is very popular with local residents and tourists, and has the feel of a tranquil park. It serves as a gateway to the National Seashore Park, with free parking, bike trails, picnic tables and self-guided nature walks.
A pair of Canadian geese take ownership of a Beech Forest pond. Canadian geese mate for life and in the spring, goslings are a familar sight foraging along the pond shores. During wintertime, when the ice on the pond is thick, local families like to skate here. In past long cold winters, the Provinceown Fire Department has set up lights powered by generators so the townspeople can have evening skating parties with hot chocolate and hand warming fires in 55-gallon drums.
